GG Jackson claims referees show preference for experienced players such as Kevin Durant of the Rockets.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — GG Jackson believes that the Memphis Grizzlies are not receiving equitable treatment from officials in comparison to stars from other teams, such as Kevin Durant of the Houston Rockets.

Following the Grizzlies’ defeat to the Rockets 119-109 on Friday night, Jackson expressed his dissatisfaction with the officiating that favored Durant.

“KD can jab step and jab step and just jump up and down and your hand is right there,” Jackson remarked, in his third season after playing at South Carolina. “[You] can clearly see on the replay that nobody touched him.”

Durant, the 6-foot-10 forward in his 19th season, went to the free-throw line seven times while leading the Rockets with 25 points. He also contributed 10 assists and six rebounds.

The Rockets attempted 26 free throws compared to 18 for Memphis, but Jackson’s comments were specifically directed at Durant. He suggested that the veteran player receives preferential treatment, while younger athletes face harsher scrutiny.

“It’s unbelievable how the refs can cater to someone,” Jackson stated. “He’s the GOAT, so I respect that, but as for us other guys, we work just as hard as he does.”

There may have been some frustration reflected in Jackson’s remarks, as he is typically a lighthearted individual who enjoys joking during interviews. However, the Grizzlies have now lost five consecutive games and have secured only one victory in their last 14 outings. Jackson has seen increased playing time due to injuries affecting many of the Grizzlies’ starters and rotation players, some of whom are out for the season.

Jackson is averaging 12 points per game and scored 14 in the loss to Houston.

At one point, while voicing his concerns about the officiating, Jackson mentioned that Rockets reserve Tari Eason told him he was not Durant.

“On this court, I’m the closest one to him,” Jackson responded.
