Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George has been suspended without pay for 25 games due to a breach of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program, as announced by the league on Saturday.

George’s suspension will take effect starting with tonight’s matchup between the 76ers and the New Orleans Pelicans.

“In recent years, I have emphasized the significance of mental health, and while seeking treatment for a personal issue, I mistakenly took an inappropriate medication,” George stated in a message to ESPN’s Shams Charania. “I fully accept responsibility for my actions and extend my apologies to the Sixers organization, my teammates, and the fans in Philadelphia for my poor judgment during this time.”

“I am committed to utilizing this period to ensure that my mind and body are in optimal condition to support the team upon my return.”

The experienced forward is currently averaging 16 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists over 27 games for the Sixers this season.
