Draymond Green participates in trade discussions involving the Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors have engaged in active trade discussions involving Draymond Green ahead of Thursday’s deadline, according to league sources, placing his 14-year tenure with the team in uncertainty.
General manager Mike Dunleavy and controlling owner Joe Lacob have expressed a desire to finalize a trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, and as part of that effort, Green’s name has surfaced in the context of potential offers to the Milwaukee Bucks, sources indicated.
In order to balance the salaries, the Warriors must include either injured wing Jimmy Butler III (who is set to earn $56.8 million next season) or Green ($27.6 million next season) in the transaction. Green’s contract is smaller and easier to maneuver, and he is currently healthy and capable of contributing to a contender, making him more attractive to the Bucks and other teams in trade discussions.
“I’ve been here for 14 years,” Green remarked when questioned about his future on Friday night. “I have no reason to sit and worry about leaving. But if I’m traded, that’s part of the business. I ain’t losing no sleep though. I slept great last night.”
Warriors coach Steve Kerr and star guard Steph Curry have consistently stated their preference for Green to retire in a Warriors jersey. However, Lacob and Dunleavy will ultimately make the decision, and as they look to reshape their roster for the future, Green is being made more available than he has been previously.
“I think what’s really tricky for Draymond is this is the only place he’s ever known,” Kerr commented during his weekly radio appearance. “He’s going to have a statue outside the building someday…He’s never been through this and it’s definitely been on his mind.”
