WASHINGTON — Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan expressed his gratitude for the support from team president and CEO Michael Reinsdorf.

However, Donovan cautioned against reading too much into the endorsement ahead of Chicago’s matchup with the Washington Wizards on Thursday evening.

“I believe Michael was expressing his feelings about me,” Donovan stated after Reinsdorf indicated on Tuesday that he wishes for him to continue in his role. “But I also recognize that, as I mentioned, everyone must prioritize what is best for the Bulls at that moment.”

The Bulls implemented significant changes to their front office on Monday, dismissing executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley following a six-year period that yielded only one playoff appearance.

Donovan, 60, has not yet made a decision regarding his future. He intends to discuss matters with Reinsdorf after the conclusion of the season.

“I enjoy it here,” Donovan remarked. “I’ve appreciated the relationships, not just with Jerry and Michael, but also with the staff and everyone in the organization. It has been a fantastic working environment, and I take pleasure in it. However, we find ourselves in this situation because we have not achieved significant success.”

Donovan is completing his 11th season in the NBA and his sixth with the Bulls, following five consecutive playoff appearances during his tenure in Oklahoma City.

His teams have progressed beyond the first round only once, when Oklahoma City reached the 2015-16 Western Conference finals in his inaugural season.
