CHICAGO — Bulls guard Anfernee Simons is scheduled for further imaging on his injured left wrist on Monday and will consult a hand specialist, according to coach Billy Donovan prior to Sunday’s matchup against the New York Knicks.
Simons, who was acquired by Chicago in a trade that sent center Nikola Vucevic to Boston at the trade deadline earlier this month, sustained the injury during Chicago’s 126-110 defeat to Detroit on Saturday and did not participate in the second half.
The injury has been classified as a left wrist sprain, but Donovan indicated that the team is unsure of the precise diagnosis or the duration of Simons’ absence.
“The medical staff wants to consult a hand doctor and we’ll conduct some imaging tomorrow, so I’ll have a clearer understanding,” Donovan stated. “He’s currently out.”
“He is still experiencing significant soreness, but the severity of the injury remains uncertain.”
In six games and five starts with the Bulls, Simons has recorded an average of 15.2 points and 28.4 minutes per game.
During 49 games with the Celtics this season, the 26-year-old Simons averaged 14.2 points in 24.5 minutes. He was selected by Portland as a first-round draft pick in 2018 and spent the first seven of his eight NBA seasons with the Trail Blazers before being traded to Boston for Jrue Holiday in July.
The Bulls entered Sunday amidst a season-high eight-game losing streak.
