Bam Adebayo’s youth coach comments on record-setting 83-point game

Even days after Bam Adebayo’s remarkable 83-point performance, the Miami Heat star’s former AAU coach, Ty White, finds himself in a perplexing mental state as he reflects on the historic event.
Indeed, he is astonished that the 6-foot-9 center achieved such an extraordinary stat line, but not because he doubted Adebayo’s potential.
It’s simply that 83 points is, well, 83 points!
“I mean, it’s so unbelievable to consider that anyone could score that many points in an NBA game,” stated White, director of Team Loaded. “But looking back, the kid was always an exceptional athlete with a natural instinct for the basketball. I wasn’t even watching the game live; so many people began texting me saying, ‘Bam Bam Bam!'”
Adebayo’s 83 points, along with nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks, contributed to a 150-129 victory over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. He shot 7-of-22 from beyond the arc and established an NBA record for the most free throws made (36) and attempted (43).
Before this game, Adebayo’s highest scoring game was 41 points.
Adebayo’s 83 points rank as the second-highest total in a single game in NBA history, surpassed only by Wilt Chamberlain’s iconic 100-point game in 1962.

White noted that, beyond Adebayo’s impressive athleticism, he possessed a unique ability to “do something to ‘wow’ you every game” during his time with Team Loaded.
“That was always the case,” White remarked. “He would perform actions that would leave you questioning how he accomplished them. We were the most thrilling team in the country to watch, largely due to him.”
White highlighted Adebayo’s growth as a scorer over the years, transitioning from a powerful athlete to a highly skilled scorer.
“When he played for me, he was primarily a lob threat and drop-off player,” White explained. “Now, he’s initiating plays and is one of the most versatile players in the league. The way he has developed as a player is simply remarkable.”
That being said, White’s astonishment at the point total is justifiable—Adebayo’s career high with Team Loaded was only 30 points. He averaged 25 points and 15 rebounds per game.
“Eighty-three is just unbelievable, I don’t care who you are,” White stated. “He must believe that the sky is the limit after this. His confidence has to be at an all-time high right now, and rightly so. People can say what they want, but at the end of the day, he’s No. 2 behind Wilt with 83, and no one can take that away from him.”
