A portion of the chaotic conclusion to regulation in Saturday’s overtime contest between the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets was deemed an erroneous decision, as indicated by the NBA’s Last Two Minute report released on Sunday.

With 9.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the Nuggets leading 116-113, Lakers guard Austin Reaves approached the free throw line after being fouled by Spencer Jones immediately following the inbound pass.

However, the report states that Jones “cleanly dislodges the ball away from Reaves,” which should have been considered a successful strip, resulting in the ball going out of bounds. Instead, Reaves was awarded free throws, bringing the Lakers within one point. The report does not clarify whether the Lakers would have maintained possession after the strip or if it would have been classified as a turnover.

Reaves then surprised the Nuggets during his subsequent trip to the line after Cameron Johnson made two free throws to extend the lead back to three. The Lakers guard converted the first free throw and then intentionally missed the second, retrieving the rebound and tying the game with a floater.

The Lakers ultimately triumphed over the Nuggets in overtime with a score of 127-125, thanks to a game-winning jumper from Luka Doncic.
