Attorney: Ayton held in Bahamas on allegations of cannabis possession 1

Los Angeles Lakers center Deandre Ayton was momentarily detained on Tuesday at an airport in the Bahamas on suspicion of possessing a “very small amount of marijuana,” as stated by Ayton’s attorney, Devard Francis.

Ayton, who hails from the Bahamas and has previously represented the men’s national team, was held at Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau. Francis mentioned that the marijuana was found in another individual’s bag, and Ayton was promptly released following a brief inquiry.

“The investigators determined that the very small amount of marijuana was not in Deandre’s bag, but they still conducted their investigations, and he was released quickly,” Francis informed Reuters in a statement.

Under the current CBA agreement, players are no longer subjected to marijuana testing, and it has been removed from the list of banned substances. Nonetheless, marijuana remains illegal in the Bahamas.

Ayton, 27, is in his inaugural season with the Lakers, who will resume play after the All-Star break on Friday against the LA Clippers.
