NEWPORT, R.I. — The ceremony for Roger Federer’s induction sold out in just two minutes, as announced by the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Wednesday, which also revealed plans for an outdoor watch party to accommodate thousands more fans.

“As a small yet historic venue, our capacity is limited,” the Hall stated on social media.

The Hall expressed its expectation regarding the enthusiasm for the first male player to secure 20 Grand Slam singles titles, who will be honored in the Newport-based institution on Aug. 29 alongside broadcaster Mary Carillo. In addition to the 900 tickets initially available for the induction ceremony, the Hall will open its 3,600-seat stadium for the watch party.

The Tennis Hall, located in the 19th Century Newport Casino, recently completed a $3 million renovation in preparation for upcoming induction ceremonies to celebrate Federer and Serena Williams, who will be eligible next year unless she makes a return to the sport.
