Alex Eala Reflects on Rain-Interrupted Hong Kong Open Semi-Final Win

Alex Eala navigated a rain delay to secure her maiden appearance in the Hong Kong Open semi-finals.
Eala aims to conclude the finest campaign of her professional career with a strong finish at the Hong Kong Open, which marks the final event of her annual schedule.
The Filipina faced significant challenges against Croatian Antonia Ruzic, enduring five service breaks, yet Eala ultimately prevailed with a scoreline of 7-6(7), 7-5.
A rain delay also occurred late in the second set, prompting Eala to discuss her performance and the match dynamics during her on-court interview following her victory over Ruzic.
Alex Eala comes through βrollercoasterβ match to reach Hong Kong semi-finals
βIt was a rollercoaster for sure and it was an incredible battle, so I donβt know what inspired me or kept me to continue digging deeper, but Antonia played a really amazing match and Iβm blessed to be able to play another round here,β Eala said in her on-court interview when asked about her win over Ruzic.
Given that Eala suffered five service breaks and dealt with rain disruptions, the 21-year-old experienced notable frustration, which she detailed while explaining her strategy for overcoming these obstacles.
βYeah, I mean you know when you are on court there is kind of not much else you can think about except how to play, right?β answered Eala. βYeah, I think more than staying focussed it was choosing to push through and giving everything that I have.β
With only a single day remaining before the semi-finals at the Hong Kong Open, Eala acknowledged there are specific aspects of her game she wishes to adjust, although she did not specify what those adjustments entail.
βA few adjustments to be made, but that is to be decided in the next couple of hours, so now just some rest,β Eala said, as she concluded her interview.
Eala stands as the highest-ranked competitor still in the WTA 250 tournament draw in Hong Kong, especially after top seed Sorana Cirstea suffered a surprising defeat to qualifier Alexandra Shubladze in the quarter-finals.
Nevertheless, Eala must now prepare for a difficult semi-final clash against former world number three Maria Sakkari, a player she has never faced previously. Eala will compete with Sakkari for a spot in the Hong Kong Open final on Saturday, November 7.
