Carlos Alcaraz pulls out of Barcelona Open because of wrist injury.

BARCELONA, Spain — Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Barcelona Open following a test on his right wrist, as announced by the tournament on Wednesday.
This withdrawal means that the second-ranked Alcaraz will not be able to surpass top-ranked Jannik Sinner and reclaim the top position in the rankings next week.
The decision came a day after Alcaraz requested a trainer and received treatment on his wrist during his first match, which he won 6-4, 6-2 against Otto Virtanen.
Alcaraz was scheduled to face Tomas Machac in the round of 16 on Thursday.
The 22-year-old Spaniard lost his No. 1 ranking after Sinner defeated him in the Monte Carlo Masters final on Sunday.
Alcaraz’s upcoming tournaments include the Madrid Open and the Italian Open before he defends his title at the French Open.
Machac progresses to the quarterfinals and will compete against either Andrey Rublev or Lorenzo Sonego.
