Steve Tandy emphasized the need for national cohesion following Wales’ recent disappointing loss to France, witnessed by their smallest-ever Six Nations home attendance.

The Welsh rugby scene has faced challenges both on and off the field for an extended period, as the Welsh Rugby Union moves forward with plans to reduce its number of men’s professional teams from four to three amid unprecedented Test defeats.

France achieved their largest victory in Cardiff on Sunday, scoring eight tries for a 54-12 win that propels them back to the top of the Six Nations standings.

Of additional concern for the WRU was the attendance of 57,744, which is lower than the previous record low of 58,349 against Italy in 200.

“I recognize there is a lot happening,” Tandy remarked when questioned about the record-low turnout. “There has been a great deal occurring in Wales for quite some time.”

“Ultimately, the goal is to unify everything. That is the objective for everyone involved. We are a small nation, and we need to ensure everything is progressing in the right direction.”

“I truly believe that for the people, clubs, players, and journalists — we all need to contribute to this journey. Everyone must play their role, but patience is also necessary.”

After suffering a 48-7 defeat to England in their Championship opener the previous weekend, Wales was once again overpowered and outperformed.

Wales has now allowed 32 tries and 302 points during Tandy’s six matches in charge.

However, the issues extend far beyond the current coaching staff, with Wales experiencing 13 consecutive Six Nations losses and securing only two victories in 25 Tests.

“I’m disheartened by the scoreline, but we must acknowledge France and what they brought to the match,” Tandy stated.

“I believed there was more potential in us at certain moments during the game.”

“I know you might find it hard to believe when I discuss the scoreline, but I saw some [positive] signs in the set-piece and in our intent to pursue the game.”

“There was enough from the players that we can return on Tuesday and focus on improvements.”

Wales will face Scotland next on Saturday, with Gregor Townsend’s team energized by their impressive win over England.

Defending champions France aim to take another step toward the title and a possible Grand Slam when they host Italy on Sunday.

Captain Antoine Dupont remarked: “The tournament is not yet secured. We still have significant matches ahead, and we must stay focused and concentrate on our style of play.”

“We are witnessing efficiency in our game, and we started the match strongly.”

“We performed well under pressure, and our defense enabled us to create numerous transitions in the game.”
