Red Roses head coach John Mitchell extends contract with new long-term agreement.

England women’s rugby head coach John Mitchell has agreed to a new contract that extends until the conclusion of the 2029 World Cup, as confirmed by the Rugby Football Union (RFU).
Mitchell guided the Red Roses to a World Cup triumph on home turf last year, defeating Canada in the final held at Twickenham in September.
Now, the coach from New Zealand will have the opportunity to pursue consecutive titles with the national team.
“I am happy to prolong my tenure with the Red Roses,” Mitchell stated. “This extension ensures continuity throughout a World Cup cycle and allows the program to function with a clear, long-term vision.
“The last three years have been both demanding and fulfilling, achieving success at the highest level while fostering the authenticity of individuals within the Red Roses. This time has contributed to establishing robust standards, clarity of purpose, enhanced connections, and a winning culture.”
Mitchell is well-respected by his players, with England remaining unbeaten under his leadership.
“This developing group has the chance to continue to lead our sport on a global scale. By elevating standards and consistently pursuing new performance improvements, the program can build on existing foundations and strive for new benchmarks,” Mitchell further remarked.

“The immediate priority, however, is 2026. There is a strong feeling of unfulfilled potential within the group, which will influence our preparation, training methods, and ongoing commitment to elevate our baseline as we cultivate our ambition for a dynasty.”
Emily Scarratt, who concluded her playing career after the World Cup, will be joining Mitchell’s coaching team.
England will commence their Six Nations title defense at home against Ireland on April 11.
