France prop Uini Atonio experiences career-ending cardiac incident.

France prop Uini Atonio is currently hospitalized following a cardiac incident that will conclude his rugby career, as confirmed by Top 14 club La Rochelle.
The 35-year-old is reported to be in stable condition but is still in intensive care, according to La Rochelle.
Atonio had been included in the France Six Nations squad prior to their tournament opener against Ireland in Paris on February 5.
“Uini Atonio was admitted yesterday to the La Rochelle Hospital Center due to a suspected heart issue,” a statement from La Rochelle indicated. “Medical tests have verified a cardiac event.
“His condition is stable now, and he remains in intensive care for monitoring. Following his hospitalization, Uini will need to undergo an extended recovery period. It is now confirmed that he will not be able to continue his playing career.”
“Uini holds a significant place in the history and affection of our club. This news profoundly affects us. The entire club wishes to extend its complete and steadfast support to him and his family during this challenging time.”
The New Zealand-born prop joined La Rochelle in 2011 and has since played over 300 matches for the French team. He qualified to represent France through residency and made his national team debut in 2014. He has earned 68 caps for France, contributing to their victories in two Six Nations championships, including a Grand Slam in 2022.
