Lewis Hamilton’s remarkable weekend concluded with an Oscar on Sunday, as the “F1” film secured an Academy Award for Best Sound.

The movie, which Hamilton co-produced and made a cameo appearance in, received nominations for four awards, including Best Picture and Visual Effects.

Although it did not win those categories, it succeeded in Best Sound, with Hamilton receiving a mention during the acceptance speech.

Hamilton was unable to be present at the ceremony due to the Chinese Grand Prix, where he achieved his first podium finish for Ferrari on his 26th race attempt earlier that day. Hamilton, who placed behind first-time race winner Kimi Antonelli and Mercedes teammate George Russell, stated he had explored “every way” to attend the Oscars but ultimately had to forgo the event.

Shanghai, the location of the race, is a 12.5-hour flight from Los Angeles, and even with the 15-hour time zone difference, it would have been unfeasible for Hamilton to arrive in time.

“I’ll FaceTime with Joe and Jerry when they’re there, which will be cool,” Hamilton mentioned earlier in the week, having collaborated closely on the film with director Joseph Kosinski and lead producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

“I’m incredibly proud, and I never ever thought in a million years that that would be the outcome of the work that we’ve been doing over the past years.”

“It’s amazing to see. I don’t know if it’s the sport, but to observe how much promotion there is globally, to witness the excitement, to see new individuals getting enthusiastic about the sport, in the same way that many of us did while growing up.”

“It’s truly wonderful to see that this is expanding. And in addition to that, I’m still here, still a part of it and able to witness it.”

The Academy Award marks the latest accolade for the F1 film, which also won a Grammy last month for Chris Stapleton’s “Bas As I Used To Be,” in addition to receiving a BAFTA for Best Sound.

Hamilton, currently fourth in the championship ahead of the next race of the season, the Japanese Grand Prix, also contributed to the script for the film and participated in a driving day with its lead actor, Brad Pitt.
