Japanese Grand Prix: Kimi Antonelli secures second victory for Mercedes 1

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli pulled ahead after a mid-race safety car to secure his second victory in Formula 1 at the Japanese Grand Prix.

A sluggish start left the 18-year-old in fifth position from pole after the start, but he regained the lead following Haas’ Oliver Bearman’s crash on Lap 22, which prompted the deployment of the safety car.

Bearman lost control at Spoon corner, impacting the barriers with a force of 50G, but his team reported that he had not sustained any fractures.

Antonelli established a significant gap over second-placed Oscar Piastri in the McLaren.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc completed the podium after an exciting late contest with George Russell, who ended the race in fourth.
