Former Alpine driver Jack Doohan has been appointed as Haas’s official reserve driver for the forthcoming season.

Doohan made his Formula 1 debut with Alpine at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and subsequently participated in the first six races of the 2025 season with the French outfit.

However, by the seventh round of the season at Imola, he was reassigned to a reserve driver position and replaced by Franco Colapinto, who was initially given five races to demonstrate his capabilities but ultimately retained the seat through the remainder of the season and into 2026.

Doohan departed Alpine in January of this year while seeking a position in Super Formula, but his agreement to race for Kondo Racing in the Japanese single-seater series ultimately fell through when the team opted for Ukyo Sasahara instead.

In his new position, he will join Haas alongside current reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa, who balances his F1 responsibilities with a full-time role in Toyota’s WEC hypercar team.

”I’m excited to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team,” Doohan stated. “It’s the perfect environment to advance my Formula 1 career.

“I want to express my gratitude to the team for providing me with the chance to develop and tackle the significant challenge of 2026 together. I’m looking forward to starting work with the team and collaborating for a successful season.”

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu remarked: “I’m personally very enthusiastic about having Jack on board, considering the strength of his racing background and his experience as a reserve driver in Formula 1.

“The commitment needed to stay sharp and ready to race while familiarizing oneself with the team’s operations is demanding for any driver—especially one who is clearly eager to compete at this level again. I’ve enjoyed getting to know Jack, and we anticipate welcoming him to the team and benefiting from his input.”

Haas will maintain the same race driver lineup of Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman this year as it embarks on F1’s new regulatory era with title partner Toyota Gazoo Racing.
