Chase Elliott and Joey Logano secure victories in Daytona 500 qualifying heats.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Chase Elliott secured victory in the second qualifying race for the Daytona 500 on Thursday evening, while Anthony Alfredo captured the final position in the starting lineup for “The Great American Race.”
Joey Logano triumphed in the first race, with Casey Mears obtaining the transfer spot available in that contest. This marked Logano’s fourth win in a Daytona 500 qualifying race; he is a three-time NASCAR champion who previously won the main event in 2015.
Elliott, the NASCAR champion of 2020, will begin the race from the second row next to Logano on Sunday for the season opener. This victory marks Elliott’s third in qualifying.
“It felt good to get the adrenaline going,” Elliott remarked. “It’s great to secure a win, but it’s not the 500. I’ve experienced this before.”
The four drivers who did not qualify for the 41-car lineup were Corey LaJoie, B.J. McLeod, Chandler Smith, and JJ Yeley. Two positions were filled during Wednesday night’s time trials, awarded to Justin Allgaier and Corey Heim.
