Barcelona circuit to stay on Formula 1 schedule through 2032

Formula 1 has announced an extension of its racing agreement with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, ensuring that the Spanish venue will remain on the calendar on a rotational basis alongside Spa-Francorchamps until 2032.
The updated contract will allow F1 to compete at the Spanish circuit in 2028, 2030, and 2032, while the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps will take place in 2027, 2029, and 2031.
Both the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Spa-Francorchamps are included in this year’s schedule.
This announcement comes after Madrid’s inclusion in F1’s calendar as the host of the Spanish Grand Prix in September this year, as part of an annual agreement that extends until 2035.
The introduction of the race in Madrid raised concerns regarding the future of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which has been the venue for the Spanish Grand Prix since 1991. However, under the new agreement, the race will be referred to as the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
This arrangement means that F1 will feature two races in Spain during 2028, 2030, and 2032.
“Barcelona is an amazing city, and the Formula 1 supporters there always greet us with great enthusiasm, so I am pleased that we will continue to race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for many years ahead,” stated F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.
“The team has made significant investments in the circuit and has organized excellent fan festivals in recent years, so we are eager to see how they will further enhance the experience for both race attendees and the city overall.”
This announcement follows the recent confirmation of the return of the Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimao in 2027 and 2028.
