Pierre Gasly, an Alpine Formula 1 driver, has been identified as part of the investment group backing the acquisition of the Tech3 MotoGP team, led by Guenther Steiner.

The announcement regarding the MotoGP team’s purchase was made last September, with former Haas team principal Steiner spearheading the initiative prior to his upcoming role as CEO starting in 2026.

An ESPN source indicated last year that the transaction was valued at approximately €20 million ($23.4 million), with IKON Capital recognized as the leading investor group.

On Friday, IKON Capital and Steiner disclosed the complete list of investors involved, which features US investor David Blitzer and Main Street Advisors.

Gasly’s involvement comes through the SLAM/TRAIL investment group, marking him as the first active F1 driver to invest in a MotoGP team.

“I am excited about the chance to invest in Tech3 alongside SLAM Fund,” Gasly stated. “I firmly believe in the strength of the Tech3 brand and the long-term potential of the MotoGP sport.”

“Tech3 possesses considerable untapped potential, and I am eager to help enhance the team’s visibility.”

Since 2001, Tech3 has participated in the top tier of motorcycle racing and operates from its headquarters in France, currently functioning as a satellite team for the Austrian manufacturer KTM.

In July of last year, Liberty Media, the owner of F1, finalized a €4.2 billion acquisition of Dorna Sports, the entity holding the commercial rights to MotoGP, and has shown interest in expanding the sport’s presence in North America.

“This is a very thrilling moment to be entering MotoGP, and it was essential for IKON Capital and myself to assemble a group of investors who share a long-term vision for the Tech3 team,” Steiner remarked in a statement on Friday.

“We are supported by a robust group that comprehends motorsport, offers genuine value-added capabilities, and aligns with our core values.

“Equally important, we are dedicated to maintaining Tech3’s legacy while adopting a thoughtful, strategic approach to growth. This initiative focuses on building upon existing strengths, and I am looking forward to collaborating to shape the team’s future.”
