U.S. Falls to Sweden 5-2 in World Junior Summer Showcase Match
WINDSOR, Ont. – Team USA suffered a 5-2 defeat against Sweden, despite contributions from LJ Mooney (West Mifflin, Pa.) and Nick Bogas (Royal Oak, Mich.), during the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase at WFCU Centre.
Following a scoreless first period, Mooney opened the scoring for Team USA at 5:48 of the second period, capitalizing on a net-front opportunity set up by a pass from Victor Plante (Hermantown, Minn.).
Just 38 seconds later, the U.S. extended their lead to 2-0, as Bogas scored with a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle, assisted by Teddy Murtryn (Norwell, Mass.) and Mason West (Edina, Minn.).
U.S. goaltender Ryan Cameron (Berwyn, Pa.) made a crucial save with 10:20 left in the game, sliding across his crease to stop a one-timer from the right faceoff circle. He concluded the match with 22 saves.
Sweden narrowed the U.S. lead to 2-1 with a power-play goal from Linus Funck, who scored with a shot from the point through traffic at 15:07 of the second period.
Sweden equalized early in the third period when Funck netted his second goal of the game, scoring with a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle that got past Cameron over the blocker.
Teddy Mutryn nearly restored the U.S. advantage at 9:17 with a shot following a cross-ice pass, but was thwarted by a sprawling glove save from Goos.
Torkel Jennersjo scored at 12:34, giving Sweden the lead with a rebound opportunity following a quick play off the opening faceoff.
