U.S. Achieves Clean Sweep on Second Day of World Junior Summer Showcase

WINDSOR, Ont. – On the second day of the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase at WFCU Centre, Team USA secured victories in both matches. USA Blue, featuring a two-goal performance from Ethan Wyttenbach (Roslyn, N.Y.), triumphed over Finland with a score of 5-1. Meanwhile, USA White, led by three-point efforts from Jack Murtagh (East Greenbush, N.Y.) (1g, 2a) and Victor Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) (3a), defeated Sweden, 6-4.

The World Junior Summer Showcase acts as an assessment for players from the United States, Canada, Finland, and Sweden who aim to join their national teams for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship, scheduled from Dec. 26, 2026, to Jan. 5, 2027, in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.

Team USA will continue its participation in the World Junior Summer Showcase this Wednesday (July 29) against Finland at 3 p.m. ET. All matches from the WJSS are available for live streaming and on-demand viewing on HNLive.ca.

USA Blue 5, Finland 1

U.S. goaltender Ryan Cameron (Berwyn, Pa.) delivered a series of impressive saves during a penalty at the end of the first period. Cameron was instrumental in Team USA’s defense, making 10 saves in the opening 20 minutes to keep the score level after the first period.

Wyttenbach initiated the scoring for Team USA at 10:12 of the second period, capitalizing on a breakaway opportunity following an outlet pass from Asher Barnett (Wilmette, Ill.).

The U.S. extended its lead with 6:53 left in the period, as Wyttenbach netted his second goal of the game, forcing a turnover in the slot and firing a shot past Finnish goaltender Juuso Ainasto.

Finland managed to score its first goal at 15:31 of the second, with Eetu Orpana finding the net on a deflection in front of the crease.

Brooks Rogowski (Brighton, Mich.) restored the U.S. three-goal lead just 34 seconds into the third period, skating down the ice with the puck before unleashing a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Ainasto.

Team USA increased its advantage to 4-1 at 7:53, as Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.) launched a shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle over Ainasto’s shoulder. Carter Sanderson (Pierre, S.D.) sealed the 5-1 final with an empty-net goal at 4:08 remaining.

USA Blue 6, Sweden 4

Carter Amico (Westbrook, Maine) opened the scoring for the U.S. with 5:48 left in the first period, redirecting a shot from Landon Nycz (Detroit, Mich.) past Swedish goaltender Mans Goos to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Sweden equalized with 3:41 remaining, as Milton Gastrin scored on a shot from just outside the slot.

Team USA regained the lead just 15 seconds later, with Jacob Kvasnicka (Burnsville, Minn.) firing a shot past Goos from the left faceoff circle to take a 2-1 lead.

Chase Reid (Chesterfield, Mich.) netted a power-play goal with 2:06 left, sending a wrist shot from the right circle past the goaltender’s shoulder after receiving a pass from Jack Hextall (Rolling Meadows, Ill.).

Sammy Nelson (Maple Grove, Minn.) contributed a second power-play goal for the U.S. at 13:39 of the second period, scoring following a centering pass from Teddy Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) to extend the lead to 4-1.

Filip Ekberg responded with a power-play goal at 16:56, narrowing the U.S. lead to two goals.

Jack Murtagh (East Greenbush, N.Y.) scored Team USA’s third power-play goal of the match 1:38 into the third period, finding the net from in front of Goos’ crease to give the U.S. a 5-2 lead.

Jakob Ihs-Wozniak scored from the bottom of the left faceoff circle, reducing Sweden’s deficit to two goals.

Mason West (Edina, Minn.) answered with a goal at 7:41, scoring after a pass from Victor Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) to extend the U.S. lead to 6-3.

Sweden’s Viktor Klingsell added a goal with 53 seconds left, resulting in a 6-4 final score.
