FRIBOURG, Switzerland – The U.S. Men’s National Team registered 34 shots on goal, while Devin Cooley (Los Gatos, Calif./Calgary Flames) made 34 saves; however, Canada secured a 4-0 victory in the quarterfinal stage of the 2026 IIHF Men’s World Championship.

Team USA finishes its tournament journey with a record of 3-1-0-4 (W-OTW-OTL-L).

Cooley was impressive for the U.S. early on, stopping Ryan O’Reilly on a close-range opportunity near his net to maintain a scoreless tie at 2:09 of the first period.

Cooley came through again at 7:54 during a penalty kill, blocking a one-timer that led to a 2-on-1 chance moments later, which was thwarted by Canadian goaltender Jet Greaves.

Team USA effectively killed a five-minute Canadian power play with 8:46 left in the period, supported by Cooley and solid defensive efforts.

Oliver Moore (Mounds View, Minn./Chicago Blackhawks) came close to scoring on the power play later in the first period, navigating through Canadian defenders and taking a shot that was caught by Greaves.

Canada broke the deadlock on the power play at 18:31, as Macklin Celebrini found the net over Cooley’s glove with a shot from the slot.

Dylan Holloway extended Canada’s lead to 2-0 at 9:38 of the second period, scoring on a loose puck in front.

Cooley kept the U.S. deficit at two with a remarkable glove save with 3:11 remaining in the second period, stretching across his crease to deny Connor Brown.

Team USA nearly scored with 12:15 left in the third as Matt Coronato (Greenlawn, N.Y./Calgary Flames) took a shot on goal following a cross-ice pass, but his attempt was stopped by Greaves’ outstretched glove.

Shortly after, Alex Steeves (Eden Prairie, Minn./Boston Bruins) hit the post with a shot past Greaves’ glove, followed by a chance from Ryan Ufko (Smithtown, N.Y./Milwaukee Admirals) that was also saved.

Cooley kept the U.S. within reach with 6:35 remaining, stopping Porter Martone on a breakaway.

Brown and Sidney Crosby added empty-net goals for Canada, concluding the game at 4-0.

NOTES: Devin Cooley was named U.S. Player of the Game … Canada outshot the U.S., 38-34 … The U.S. went 0-2 on the power play while Canada was 1-3 … Matthew Tkachuk, Justin Faulk and Devin Cooley were recognized as Team USA’s top three players of the tournament.
