Wrexham faced a significant injury setback during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Millwall, adding to a disappointing day for the Championship team as celebrity co-owner Ryan Reynolds observed from north Wales.

Playoff contenders Wrexham were unable to find the net at home for the first time this season, with a Max Cleworth own goal and a late strike from Josh Coburn securing the victory for Millwall.

Millwall remains in fifth place but is now just one point away from third, while sixth-placed Wrexham holds onto the final playoff position, trailing the Lions by six points.

In addition to the lost points, Wrexham is now concerned about injuries to Matty James and Liberato Cacace. Midfielder James had to leave the match in the 35th minute, followed by wing-back Cacace, who exited six minutes into the second half.

“Matty went in for a challenge and he felt he had broken his toe, so we took him off,” Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson stated.

“It doesn’t appear to be very promising, but we can only hope it’s not as severe as we fear.”

“Libby [Cacace], I haven’t yet consulted with our medical team about that, but he experienced pain behind his knee, and such disruptions are never ideal.”

Regarding the outcome, Parkinson expressed that his team had only themselves to blame for the setback in their pursuit of a remarkable fourth consecutive promotion to the Premier League.

“They defended well, which is why they are in the top six,” Parkinson remarked.

“We made errors, and that cost us; two moments out of absolutely nothing led to our defeat.”

“We created opportunities, and I don’t believe the scoreline accurately reflects the match; we’ve been the architects of our own downfall.”

“There are pivotal moments in football matches, and they did not go in our favor.”

“However, there is still everything to fight for. It never feels that way after a loss, but when we wake up tomorrow, we’ll recognize that we are in a strong position.”
