USMNT’s Patrick Agyemang ruled out of World Cup due to Achilles tendon injury

United States international Patrick Agyemang will be unable to participate in his home World Cup due to a significant Achilles tendon injury.
Agyemang displayed visible distress as he was carried off on a stretcher, with his right leg immobilized, after an awkward landing during Derby’s 2-0 win over Stoke in the English Championship on Monday.
On Tuesday, Derby confirmed that the forward would be absent from soccer’s premier tournament, which is set to take place in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico in June and July.
“Due to this injury, Patrick will regrettably miss this summer’s FIFA World Cup,” Derby stated in an announcement. “At this point, it would be inappropriate to estimate a timeline for his recovery.”
The club further mentioned that Agyemang would undergo additional tests later on Tuesday and “further updates will be provided in due course.”
Agyemang has been instrumental in Derby’s push for promotion to the Premier League, contributing a team-high 10 goals since joining last summer from Charlotte FC in MLS.
During the recent international break, he came off the bench for the United States, scoring in a defeat against Belgium and also participating in a match against Portugal.
