Trinity Rodman of Washington Spirit, Lindsey Heaps from OL Lyonnes, and Gotham FC’s Rose Lavelle are prominent figures in the United States women’s national team roster chosen by manager Emma Hayes for the 11th edition of the SheBelieves Cup, taking place from March 1-8 in Tennessee, Ohio, and New Jersey.

The roster consists of 26 players, including 19 from domestic clubs and seven who play internationally. Among these, six players—Heaps, Phallon Tullis-Joyce of Manchester United, Emily Fox from Arsenal, Lily Yohannes of OL Lyonnes, and Chelsea’s Naomi Girma and Alyssa Thompson—are currently engaged in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The USMNT is striving to secure the tournament title for the eighth time. Only 13 players from the previous year’s SheBelieves Cup roster are returning for this year’s competition.

“The SheBelieves Cup is an excellent tournament that allows us to simulate the group stage of a FIFA tournament,” Hayes stated.

“Three high-quality matches in quick succession also enable us to recreate conditions that will prepare us for the World Cup qualifying campaign this fall. As always, we aim to continue developing our player pool to enhance our readiness. With increased experience, I anticipate our standards will keep rising.”

Rodman seeks to build on her performances from two January friendlies against Paraguay and Chile, where she scored twice and even encouraged Hayes to join her in a celebratory dance during the latter match.

Sophia Smith and Mallory Swanson, the other two components of the successful Triple Espresso forward line from the 2024 Olympics, are still in the process of regaining full fitness after each welcomed a baby last year. Both Heaps and Lavelle are looking to make their first USWNT appearances of 2026.

The SheBelieves Cup features matches against Argentina, Canada, and Colombia, all of which are currently ranked within the top 30 of the FIFA world rankings.

The USWNT will face Argentina on March 1 at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, followed by a match against long-time rivals Canada on March 4 at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field in Columbus, Ohio. The final match of the competition will take place on March 7 against Colombia at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.

This edition of the tournament will also introduce a format change: all matches that are tied at the end of regulation will proceed directly to penalties. Thus, while the tournament champion will still be determined by total points, teams will earn three points for a win, one point for a tie after regulation, and one point for winning the penalty shootout.

If teams are level on points after the round-robin stage, the following tiebreakers will be applied in order: overall goal difference, total goals scored, and head-to-head results at the end of regulation. If the head-to-head match ended in a draw, that result will stand regardless of any penalty shootout outcome. The final tiebreaker, if necessary, will be the Fair Play ranking.

The roster includes a number of young players, with 12 of those selected having 10 or fewer caps. The average age is 24.4 years, slightly higher than the 24.1 recorded during the recent January camp.

The inclusion of sisters Gisele and Alyssa Thompson in the roster marks the fourth occasion they have been selected together, with their first selection being for the 2025 SheBelieves Cup.

The Thompson sisters represent the third pair of siblings to play for the USWNT.

The first occurrence of USWNT sisters was in the late 1990s when twins Lorrie and Ronnie Fair were called up together. More recently, Samantha and Kristie Mewis were both named to the 2021 Olympic Team.
