Tottenham Hotspur have initiated discussions with Liverpool regarding a possible transfer for defender Andy Robertson, sources informed ESPN.

The left-back, who made the switch to Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, will see his contract expire at the conclusion of the season.

Earlier this month, Robertson expressed uncertainty about his long-term prospects, and sources indicated to ESPN that Tottenham has now approached to acquire the 31-year-old, although no deal has been finalized.

Robertson has fallen in the hierarchy at Liverpool this season following the £40 million ($54.1m) acquisition of Milos Kerkez during the summer, but sources mentioned to ESPN that any potential transfer this month would need to be beneficial for both the player and the club.

Spurs’ interest in Robertson arises as the club seeks to enhance its squad with more experience and leadership, particularly for Thomas Frank’s struggling team, which currently occupies 14th place in the Premier League standings.

“I’m a player who wants to play,” Robertson stated earlier this month. “I’ve got five months left, and we need to evaluate whether there are options to remain or if there are alternatives to consider.”

“I need to discuss with my family and make a decision. After a challenging summer, I’m just trying to enjoy being part of it and being a Liverpool player.”

“I aimed to qualify for the World Cup, and fortunately, we have achieved that. I need to determine what my family and I want moving forward.”

Robertson has made 363 appearances for Liverpool, securing several major trophies, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2019.
