Forward Sophia Wilson and defender Tierna Davidson are set to rejoin the United States women’s national team this month for the first time in over a year.

Both players were included in the 26-player roster announced on Wednesday by USWNT head coach Emma Hayes.

The USWNT is scheduled to face Japan three times within a week from April 11-17.

“As our team continues to develop, it will be wonderful to have Sophia and Tierna back, as they are not only exceptional players but also enhance our team atmosphere,” Hayes stated.

“Japan is certainly among the elite teams globally, and they are performing at an exceptionally high level following their Asian Cup victory, which was impressive to observe.

“Competing against the same nation three times consecutively, particularly a team as committed to their style as Japan, will present a significant challenge for our squad, and I am eager to see how our team navigates the various obstacles these matches will bring.”

The 25-year-old Wilson last represented the United States in late 2024, where she netted three goals at the Olympics, aiding the Americans in securing the gold medal.

She missed the entire 2025 NWSL season due to maternity leave and welcomed her first child in September.

Wilson, who has scored 24 goals in 58 appearances for the USWNT, has participated in all four matches for the Portland Thorns in the current NWSL season, making her first start on Saturday.

Her return reunites her with forward Trinity Rodman, another member of the self-styled “Triple Espresso” front line that contributed to the USWNT’s fifth Olympic gold medal.

Mallory Swanson, the third member of that trio, remains on maternity leave after missing all of 2025.

These three players collectively scored 10 of the USWNT’s 12 goals during the 2024 Olympics.

Davidson last played for the USWNT in February 2025. She suffered an ACL tear at the beginning of the 2025 NWSL season.

Davidson made her return to the pitch for Gotham at the start of the 2026 NWSL season, playing 74 minutes across three matches so far.

The left-footed center-back has earned 67 caps for the USWNT and was part of the squad that won the 2019 World Cup.

Davidson also started four of the six matches at the 2024 Olympics, including the semifinal and final after a brief injury concern mid-tournament.

Following extensive experimentation in her inaugural full year in chargeβ€”32 players made their international debuts in Hayes’ first 32 matches, a recordβ€”Hayes has selected a roster without any uncapped players for the second consecutive camp.

The USWNT secured the SheBelieves Cup in March, triumphing over Argentina, Canada, and Colombia.

One change from that previous roster is the return of goalkeeper Jane Campbell, who has performed exceptionally well for the Houston Dash at the start of the 2026 NWSL season.

Campbell, with 10 caps, remains the most seasoned goalkeeper on the roster, despite being considered the No. 3 in the group.

Jaedyn Shaw will participate in the training camp despite recent injury issues with Gotham FC.

Six players from the SheBelieves Cup roster are not included in this USWNT roster, with several absent due to injuries.

Japan will provide a formidable challenge for the USWNT, particularly with the teams facing each other in such rapid succession.

The Nadeshiko claimed the 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup last month, defeating hosts Australia 1-0 in the final and outscoring their opponents 29-1 throughout the tournament.

The United States and Japan will compete on April 11 in San Jose, California; on April 14 in Seattle; and on April 17 outside Denver.
