Former Real Madrid and Spain defender Sergio Ramos anticipates receiving updates soon regarding a bid he is leading to acquire his childhood club, Sevilla.

Recent reports indicate that Ramos is at the forefront of a consortium, supported by football investment group Five Eleven Capital, aiming to take over the struggling LaLiga side. The 40-year-old has made notable strides in the acquisition process that commenced at the end of 2025.

When asked about the prospective takeover, Ramos commented during an event on Tuesday in Seville: “I believe there will be some news in a few months, or perhaps weeks, and we hope it will be the news we are all looking forward to. Everything is progressing well.”

Ramos, who has yet to declare his retirement from football after departing Mexican club Rayados de Monterrey in December, added: “I’m feeling fantastic. I’m spending considerable time with my family at the moment and truly enjoying it.”

The initiative led by Ramos has sparked enthusiasm among the club’s supporters, who view a potential management change favorably following several years of institutional and sporting turmoil.

Sevilla has faced difficulties in recent seasons and narrowly avoided relegation last year.

They have recorded nine wins and 15 losses in their 31 league matches this season and are positioned two places and two points above the relegation zone with seven league fixtures remaining.

Sevilla, battling relegation, are in disarray. Can Sergio Ramos rescue them?

Prominent figures from the club’s history, including former Sevilla sporting director Monchi, have voiced their support for the initiative, enhancing the plan’s credibility.

If the acquisition proceeds, Ramos will be compelled to retire from professional football or continue his career outside Spain, due to regulations that prohibit an active player from holding a direct stake in the ownership of a club within the same league.

A 2010 World Cup champion and two-time European Champion with Spain, Ramos developed in Sevilla’s youth academy and made his first-team debut in 2004.

He remained with the club until August 2005, when he transferred to Real Madrid. He returned for a second spell in the 2023-24 season before signing with Monterrey in February 2025.
