Schmeichel, Hart among goalkeepers expressing support for Spurs’ Antonín Kinsky after career setback

A number of goalkeepers, including Peter Schmeichel and Joe Hart, have expressed their support for Tottenham Hotspur’s goalkeeper Antonín Kinsky following his difficult performance in the Champions League round-of-16 match against Atlético Madrid.
The 22-year-old, who was making his Champions League debut at the Wanda Metropolitano, committed two significant errors early in the match that resulted in goals for Marcos Llorente and Julián Álvarez. In between these two goals, Antoine Griezmann also scored after another defensive lapse, leaving Spurs trailing 3-0 within the first 15 minutes.
Spurs manager Igor Tudor substituted Kinsky after just 17 minutes, replacing him with first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The Croatian stated that he made the change to “preserve the guy,” but he has faced criticism for this decision.
Schmeichel commented on CBS’ coverage in the United States: “He substitutes him, that is going to have ramifications for the rest of his career. He’s absolutely killed his career.”
“When his name is mentioned in the future, the whole football world will remember this moment. He needed to be supported, at least until half-time.”
Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson, commenting for the BBC, characterized Tudor’s choice to substitute Kinsky as “confidence-destroying” and remarked: “I have never seen that on a football pitch.”
On TNT Sports, former England goalkeeper Hart stated: “My heart is absolutely broken for him [Kinsky].
“He had a horrible 14 minutes, that slip and the third goal. I don’t know what to say. I am just heartbroken for the lad. This Tottenham team is all over the place.”

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, now playing in Serie A with Fiorentina, extended his support to the young Spurs keeper.
De Gea posted on his X account: “No one who hasn’t been a goalkeeper can understand how difficult it is to play in this position. Keep your head up and you will go again.”
Vicario allowed two additional goals as Spurs suffered a disappointing 5-2 defeat in Madrid.
