Napoli forward Romelu Lukaku has opted out of Belgium’s friendly matches in the United States to enhance his fitness.

Lukaku has been out of action for several months due to a hamstring injury and has had limited playing time with his club. He chose to utilize the international break to focus on his conditioning, as stated by the Belgian federation on Tuesday.

On Monday, Belgium also announced the absence of Club Brugge midfielder Hans Vanaken and Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard due to injuries.

Belgium is set to face the United States on Saturday in Atlanta and will take on Mexico three days later in Chicago.

The World Cup is scheduled to commence in June.

The U.S. and Mexico will also compete against Portugal during the current international window, but Cristiano Ronaldo will not participate as he is recovering from a hamstring injury at the age of 41.
