On Tuesday, Real Madrid announced that forward Rodrygo has suffered a torn ACL and a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee, injuries that are expected to prevent him from participating in this summer’s World Cup with Brazil.

“After examinations conducted today on our player Rodrygo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a rupture of the lateral meniscus in his right leg,” the club stated in an announcement.

Rodrygo sustained the injury during Getafe’s surprising 1-0 win over Real Madrid on Monday.

Club sources informed ESPN that Rodrygo will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

The Brazilian federation released the following statement on Tuesday.

“The CBF extends its support to the athlete Rodrygo Goes, forward for Real Madrid and the Brazilian National Team, who incurred a serious injury during the match against Getafe in the Spanish League.

“Rodrygo suffered an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament and the outer meniscus of his right knee. The CBF wishes the athlete a swift recovery and hopes he returns to the field as soon as possible.”
