Pep Guardiola has indicated that he does not anticipate Manchester City’s Carabao Cup triumph over Arsenal to influence the title race and believes it may help refocus Mikel Arteta’s team ahead of their upcoming match at the Etihad Stadium.

City secured a 2-0 victory at Wembley on Sunday, with both goals coming from Nico O’Reilly in the second half, marking Guardiola’s fifth Carabao Cup win in a decade.

The two clubs are set to clash again in the Premier League on April 19.

However, with City trailing by nine points and only eight matches remaining, Guardiola considers it unlikely that Arsenal will experience a downturn due to their disappointment in the cup final.

“I would prefer to be nine points ahead in the Premier League,” Guardiola stated.

“I don’t believe it will have an effect; it’s a different competition, and they will be more focused when they arrive at the Etihad.”

“The Premier League is within their control. We have a game in hand, and with Arsenal at home, we will aim to win our matches and see what unfolds.”

Guardiola celebrated both goals at Wembley with enthusiasm, including a sprint down the touchline when O’Reilly scored his second.

This victory marks the 19th trophy during his tenure at the Etihad, and the 55-year-old, whose future beyond the summer remains uncertain, expressed his intent to savor this achievement.

“Winning a title is always challenging, so it brings joy and satisfaction,” he remarked.

“They pressed us hard in the first 15 minutes as they typically do, but after that, we began to win more of the second balls.”

“We achieved an incredible victory. The Carabao Cup may not be the Champions League or the Premier League, as everyone knows, but winning against that team adds significance to the title.”
