Brazilian forward Neymar stated he is “living year to year” as he contemplates retirement at the conclusion of the season.

The 34-year-old is currently with his childhood club Santos, having transferred from Saudi club Al Hilal last year, and aims to represent his nation in this summer’s World Cup.

He has faced injury challenges in recent years, the latest being a knee issue, but remains under contract until the end of 2026.

“I don’t know what will happen from now on, I don’t know about next year,” he shared with Brazilian channel Caze.

“It could be that by December, I might decide to retire. I’m living year to year now.

“We will see what my heart decides. It depends on what my heart tells me later in the year.

“This year is very significant, not just for Santos, but also for the Brazilian national team, as it’s a World Cup year, and for me as well. I wanted to play this season at 100 percent.”

Neymar made his latest comeback, following minor knee surgery in December, by coming off the bench in Sunday’s 6-0 victory against Velo Clubeto, helping Santos advance to the quarterfinals of the Campeonato Paulista.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player, who is Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals in 128 appearances, has participated in three World Cups.
