Mohamed Salah will depart Liverpool at the conclusion of the season, the Premier League club confirmed on Tuesday, after spending nine years at Anfield where he has cemented his status as one of the club’s all-time greats.

The 33-year-old joined Anfield from Roma in 2017 and has made 435 appearances for Liverpool, netting 255 goals. The Egyptian forward played a pivotal role in securing two Premier League titles and a Champions League for the club.

“Mohamed Salah is set to conclude his distinguished career with Liverpool Football Club at the end of the 2025-26 season,” Liverpool stated in an announcement.

“The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will mark the end of a remarkable nine-year period at Anfield.

“Salah wished to share this news with the supporters as soon as possible to ensure transparency regarding his future, reflecting his respect and appreciation for them.”

Salah signed a two-year contract extension last April, binding him to the club until the end of the 2026-27 season.

However, uncertainty regarding his future arose in December when he criticized the club and manager Arne Slot after being omitted from the lineup for three consecutive matches, stating he felt he had been thrown “under the bus” during a challenging phase for the team.

He also implied that he had no rapport with Slot and questioned whether he would stay at the club through the January transfer window. He was later excluded from the squad for a Champions League match against Inter Milan.

Nevertheless, he was reintegrated into the squad following the Africa Cup of Nations in the winter and has since been a consistent starter.

“I wanted to begin by saying that I never anticipated how profoundly this club, this city, and these people would become integral to my life,” Salah remarked in a video showcasing highlights of his tenure with Liverpool shared on X.

“Liverpool is more than just a football club. It embodies passion, history, and spirit. I cannot adequately express in words to anyone outside of this club.

“We celebrated triumphs, secured the most significant trophies, and persevered together through the most challenging times in our lives. I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who has been part of this club during my time here, especially my teammates, both past and present.

“And to the fans, I lack sufficient words. The support you provided during the peak of my career, and your steadfastness during the most difficult moments, is something I will always cherish and carry with me.

“Departing is never simple. You gave me the most remarkable time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will forever be my home, for me and my family.

“Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone.”
