Mohamed Salah expressed his desire to conclude his tenure at Liverpool “the right way” following his goal in the Reds’ 2-1 win against Everton on Sunday.

The Egyptian forward opened the scoring at Hill Dickinson Stadium, tying Steven Gerrard for the most goals by a Liverpool player in Merseyside derbies (nine). Beto equalized for the home side in the second half, but Virgil van Dijk netted a stoppage-time goal to secure a vital win for Arne Slot’s team.

“It feels great, to be fair,” Salah stated to Sky Sports after the match. “The most crucial aspect was to assist the team in settling down and maintaining confidence, as we were aware that the match would be challenging. I’m pleased that we ultimately managed to secure the victory.”

Salah has only five matches remaining with Liverpool, having confirmed last month that he will depart the club at the season’s conclusion.

When asked if he is already contemplating the end of his career at Anfield, Salah replied: “No, but I hope to continue scoring and assist the team in achieving Champions League [qualification] this season. And hopefully, I can bid farewell in the right manner.”

Commenting on the Liverpool forward, teammate Van Dijk remarked: “There will be many words spoken about him in the coming weeks. But he is incredibly significant for us, both on and off the pitch.

“I would say that appreciation often comes more when players are no longer with us, but we value him greatly. He is an exceptional teammate; we have experienced everything togetherβ€”highs and lows.

“He will remain vital for the last five matches we have to play, and it will undoubtedly be emotional for him and his family. But it will also be emotional for us, as he has meant a lot to me, the team, and the fans. However, we still have a task to complete, and he understands thatβ€”that’s our primary focus.”
