MLS has imposed lifetime bans on Derrick Jones and Yaw Yeboah for breaching the league’s gambling regulations following an investigation’s findings.

According to a statement from MLS, the league engaged a law firm to investigate after receiving alerts about suspicious betting activities through its partners, and in October 2025, placed both players on administrative leave while reviewing potential violations.

“Following the investigation’s findings, MLS determined that the players participated in significant gambling on soccer, including bets on their own teams, during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. In one case, both players wagered on Jones to receive a yellow card in a match on October 19, 2024, which he did,” the league stated.

The league disclosed that while it is likely both Jones and Yeboah exchanged conditional information with one another, there is no indication that their betting activities influenced the outcome of any match.

“Major League Soccer is unwavering in its dedication to match integrity,” stated MLS Commissioner Don Garber. “The League will persist in enforcing its policies, improving educational initiatives, and advocating for the prohibition of yellow card betting in all states to safeguard the integrity of our competition for clubs, players, and fans.”

Yeboah began his MLS journey with the Columbus Crew in 2022 and most recently played for LAFC in 2025, while Jones has represented five different teams in the league, including the Philadelphia Union, Nashville SC, Houston Dynamo FC, Charlotte FC, and the Crew.

Both players were teammates on the Crew during the 2024 MLS season.

Currently, Yeboah and Jones are not signed with any MLS club.
