Messi and Ronaldo among World Cup icons represented as LEGO figures
Not satisfied with merely introducing a nearly full-scale replica of the FIFA World Cup trophy in brick form, LEGO has elevated the excitement ahead of the finals by unveiling a collection of official minifigures inspired by some of the prominent players expected to participate in the tournament this summer.
Four of the most legendary figures in global football have been transformed into miniatures, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Vinícius Júnior all receiving the brick treatment.
A teaser video for the sets was released by LEGO on Thursday, showcasing all four World Cup stars attempting to secure a piece of the stunning (and impressively detailed) Lego Editions FIFA World Cup trophy set that was launched in December.
Each World Cup minifigure set features one of the previously mentioned players outfitted in their national team kits and positioned on a brick base shaped like their initial, with Ronaldo on an “R” base; Mbappé on an “M” base, and so forth.
Additionally, both Ronaldo and Messi have been given a special enhanced “Football Legend” set, which enables fans to construct a larger model of their selected star in various signature poses.
For instance, Ronaldo can be depicted performing his “Siuuu!” goal celebration or executing a bicycle kick, while Messi can be posed in his signature “skywards point” celebration or a lively dribbling stance. The “Football Legend” sets comprise over 850 pieces and include custom backdrops along with a printed plaque.
Even if assembling LEGO models of footballers does not appeal to you, there will at least be something to engage your mind during the numerous hydration breaks throughout the World Cup.
