Mbappé’s goal keeps Real Madrid ‘in the game’ against Bayern Munich

MADRID — Coach Álvaro Arbeloa stated that Real Madrid’s prospects of advancing in the Champions League are “still alive” following Kylian Mbappé’s goal in the second half, which resulted in a 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in their quarterfinal first leg on Tuesday.
After a strong opening from the visitors, Luis Díaz gave Bayern the lead in the 41st minute at the Bernabéu, and Harry Kane extended the advantage just 20 seconds into the second half.

Mbappé responded by scoring his competition-leading 14th goal in the Champions League this season, keeping the tie competitive ahead of next Wednesday’s return leg in Munich.
“We’re still alive, that’s clear,” Arbeloa told Movistar. “We’re just one goal behind. We’re capable of winning anywhere. A 0-2 deficit would have been very difficult to overcome … I was telling [Vinícius Júnior] that one goal would keep us in the tie. We’re still in it, because Madrid can win anywhere.”
