Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca expressed his dissatisfaction with Endrick’s performance and is urging the young Brazilian forward to elevate his game.

The 19-year-old Endrick had a promising beginning with Lyon after arriving on a six-month loan from Real Madrid, but his performance has declined amid the team’s recent struggles.

He was ineffective during a 0-0 draw against Angers in Ligue 1 last weekend, as sixth-placed Lyon extended their winless streak to nine matches overall.

“I am not pleased with Endrick’s current level of play,” Fonseca stated on Friday. “I’m not here to hinder players, but I expect more from someone like Endrick, and I believe he has a duty to step up.”

However, just days prior, Endrick made a significant contribution as a substitute for Brazil, earning a penalty and assisting on the third goal in a 3-1 victory over Croatia in a friendly match in Orlando, Florida.

“He mentioned feeling a bit fatigued from the trip [back from Orlando],” Fonseca noted. “Nonetheless, I think he has the obligation to perform better.”

Endrick has netted six goals in 15 appearances overall. Lyon’s scoring has also diminished, with only three goals in their last six matches leading up to Sunday’s home game against Lorient.

Lyon trails third-place Lille by two points with six matches remaining. The top three teams secure automatic qualification for the Champions League, while the fourth-placed team enters the qualifying rounds.
