LAFC has acquired Canadian midfielder Stephen Eustáquio from FC Porto on a temporary loan agreement until June 30, which includes an option to finalize the transfer permanently.

The MLS team announced the transaction on Friday, stating that it has also transferred $50,000 in 2026 general allocation money (GAM) to the San Jose Earthquakes to obtain Eustáquio’s discovery rights.

“Stephen is a high-caliber midfielder with significant international experience who understands what it takes to succeed and lead at the top level,” remarked LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington.

“We are pleased to bring in a player of his caliber, and we believe he will have an immediate, beneficial effect on the team both on and off the pitch.”

Eustáquio has been a key player for Porto since his arrival at the Portuguese club in 2022, participating in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, as well as last summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

However, the 29-year-old has struggled to secure consistent playing time this season and will now aim to keep his match fitness ahead of Canada’s co-hosting of the World Cup this summer.

After representing Portugal at the under-21 level, Eustáquio has earned 54 caps and netted four goals for Canada’s senior national team.
