Karim Benzema perceives ‘disrespect’ in Al Ittihad’s contract proposal – sources

Karim Benzema has expressed feelings of disrespect regarding the contract extension proposed to him by Al Ittihad, sources have informed ESPN.
The 38-year-old French forward opted to remove himself from the first team squad on Thursday and is currently training individually.
In Benzema’s absence, Al Ittihad played to a 2-2 draw against Al Fateh during their Saudi Pro League match on Thursday.
Saleh Al-Shehri filled Benzema’s position upfront and scored the opening goal in the 25th minute for Al Ittihad. Following the draw, Al Ittihad is positioned sixth in the league standings.
Benzema, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2022, will see his contract expire this summer.
The offer from the Saudi Pro League, which manages contracts for key players in PIF-owned clubs, would effectively mean he would be playing for a minimal salary, sources indicated.
The former captain of Real Madrid, who secured 25 trophies with the club, including four LaLiga titles, three Copa del Rey titles, and five Champions League trophies, has performed reasonably well this season, netting eight goals in 14 league matches.
Sources have mentioned that he is weighing all available options.
There are rumors regarding France winger Moussa Diaby potentially leaving the club.
Reports suggest that France midfielder N’Golo Kanté is “very close” to finalizing terms with Fenerbahçe.
Kanté’s contract is set to expire this summer, following three seasons in the Saudi Pro League.
Negotiations between Al Ittihad and Fenerbahçe concerning a transfer fee are reportedly ongoing, as the Saudi club aims to avoid losing Kanté on a free transfer.
