Jürgen Klopp's representative: Manchester United and Chelsea expressed interest 1

Jürgen Klopp’s representative stated that both Manchester United and Chelsea expressed interest in the former Liverpool manager following his departure from Anfield.

Marc Kosicke also mentioned in a discussion with Transfermarkt that the 58-year-old German could have taken on the role of manager for either England or the United States after leaving Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

According to the Press Association, both United and Chelsea have firmly denied making any approaches to Klopp, whether directly or through an agent. ESPN reported in 2024 that both the USMNT and England sought Klopp during their managerial searches but were ultimately turned down.

The ex-manager of Mainz and Borussia Dortmund spent nine years at Liverpool before assuming his current position as head of global football with Red Bull.

Kosicke remarked: “Perhaps at some point he’ll feel the need to experience the locker room again. However, at present, he is very, very content in his role.”

“Prior to joining Red Bull, Jürgen could have managed the United States or England. He might have also considered Germany, had Julian Nagelsmann not already been appointed there.”

He continued: “Chelsea and Manchester United also made inquiries, although Jürgen had clearly indicated that he would not coach any other club in England.”

“These inquiries continue to arise. He is extremely satisfied with his accomplishments. It remains remarkable to be one of the few coaches who have only managed three clubs and were never dismissed.”

Kosicke asserted that the United States approached Klopp before they selected Mauricio Pochettino as the successor to Gregg Berhalter in September 2024, while the Football Association appointed Thomas Tuchel as Gareth Southgate’s replacement in January 2025.

The FA has been contacted for a response.

In October, Klopp expressed that he did not plan to return to management, while also noting that a return to Liverpool is not out of the question.

“I stated that I would never manage another team in England. So that implies if [Klopp returns], it would be Liverpool,” Klopp told the Diary of a CEO podcast last year. “So yes, theoretically, it’s a possibility.”

“I enjoy what I am doing now; I do not miss coaching. I do coach, just in a different capacity, not with players. And I do not miss it. I do not miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half, three hours. I do not miss attending press conferences three times a week, having 10-12 interviews weekly. I do not miss that.”
