Joey Barton refused bail following assault allegation

Former Manchester City and QPR midfielder Joey Barton has had his bail request denied following a court session.
The 43-year-old, from Widnes, Cheshire, has been in detention since March 10, when he appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court facing charges of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent.
On Friday, Judge David Potter rejected Barton’s bail application at Liverpool Crown Court.
The majority of the bail proceedings were conducted in private, prior to the judge delivering his decision in open court.
Barton, who was not present at the hearing but was represented by Simon Csoka KC, is scheduled to appear again at Liverpool Crown Court on April 7.

He and co-defendant Gary O’Grady, 50, from Huyton, Merseyside, are charged with assaulting Kevin Lynch near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club on March 8.
O’Grady was granted conditional bail following the magistrates’ court session.
Barton has one cap for England and has also played for Newcastle, Rangers, Burnley, and Marseille.
He currently hosts the podcast ‘Common Sense With Joey Barton,’ which is characterized as an “unfiltered” examination of topics in sports, society, politics, and beyond.
