James Rodríguez admitted to the hospital due to dehydration following Colombia match 1

Colombia’s James Rodríguez was admitted to a hospital in Minnesota due to severe dehydration following a friendly match against France on Sunday, as reported by the Colombian Football Federation on Thursday.

Rodríguez, who signed a short-term contract with Minnesota United earlier this year, participated for 63 minutes in Colombia’s 3-1 defeat to France during a World Cup preparation match in Landover, Maryland.

Symptoms did not manifest until his return to Minneapolis on Monday, according to the Colombian federation.

“It has been confirmed, after establishing communication with a medical facility in Minnesota, that the midfielder has been under professional care due to a non-sports-related medical issue,” the federation stated.

“The day following the match against France, the player exhibited severe dehydration that necessitated hospitalization for the past 72 hours for preventive and recovery monitoring.”

Rodríguez, 34, was admitted to the hospital upon returning to Minnesota from international duty, accompanied by Minnesota United’s medical staff to assess all tests and diagnoses. He is now recuperating at home following the incident.

Colombia later specified that this situation is not connected to any previous injuries.

“It is essential to clarify that this matter is not associated with musculoskeletal injuries nor is it related to the progression of his football activities,” the statement added.

“Fortunately, the latest medical report indicates a positive evolution and consistent improvement.”

Rodríguez also participated in Colombia’s first match of the March international window, playing another 63 minutes in a 2-1 loss to Croatia in Orlando, Florida, on March 26.

The former Real Madrid forward has made two substitute appearances for Minnesota this season. Minnesota’s upcoming match is against the LA Galaxy on Saturday.
