Harry Maguire calls on Manchester United management to ensure successful summer signings.
Harry Maguire emphasized the importance of Manchester United making the right choices in their summer recruitment, cautioning that he has witnessed players join the club during his tenure at Old Trafford who were unable to cope with the demands of representing such a prestigious team.
Maguire has secured his future with United by signing a new one-year contract, which includes an option for an additional year.
He believes that last summer’s efforts to sign Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens have helped close the gap with teams like Manchester City and Arsenal.
However, he has advised club management that it is essential to follow up last summer’s acquisitions with further quality signings.
“I always want to be part of a squad that I felt could compete, and the recruitment went well last year; we brought in some top players who assisted us,” Maguire stated.
“I think this summer is going to be significant; we need to recruit effectively. Thereβs also a major managerial decision to be made, but the focus on recruitment is about bringing in players.”
“This summer must be a pivotal one because we are not participating in Europe this year; we will have played 40 games by the end of the season, and we definitely require a larger squad for next year.”
United have frequently mismanaged their recruitment over the past 13 years since their last Premier League title, with high-profile signings often failing to make an impact.
Maguire has witnessed firsthand how some costly signings have not succeeded during his seven years at Old Trafford.
He has informed the club that any new signings this summer must be capable of handling the intense attention and scrutiny that comes with wearing the United jersey.

“I see many players come into this club, and frankly, it’s just too large for them,” he remarked.
“The scrutiny, the analysis, every goal concededβit’s always someone’s fault. There will be former players discussing it. That’s simply part of playing for this club.”
United have been in Ireland this week preparing for Leeds United’s visit to Old Trafford on Monday.
Michael Carrick’s team enters the weekend sitting third in the table. However, Maguire believes that with the right players joining in the summer, they could contend for the title as soon as next season.
“Looking ahead to next season, I think we need to be in a position where, if we get the recruitment right and everything remains positive from now until the end of the season, thereβs no limit to what we can achieve,” he stated.
“We must be in the conversation for winning major trophies.”
