England forward Harry Kane expressed his satisfaction after netting two goals for Bayern Munich on Saturday, bringing his overall career total to 500 for both club and country.

Kane’s two goals, which included his 100th successful penalty, were instrumental in Bayern’s 3-0 victory over relegation-threatened Werder Bremen, allowing them to maintain a six-point lead in the Bundesliga.

Kane mentioned that he learned about his milestone only after the match concluded.

“It was nice. Obviously a proud achievement to reach 500 goals. It’s a lot of hard work, a lot of sacrifice, so nice to reach it. But as always, it’s about the next one,” Kane stated to broadcaster Dazn. “So the most important thing today is the win, the clean sheet.”

Kane’s first goal came as a 17-year-old while playing for Leyton Orient against Sheffield Wednesday in England’s third tier in January 2011.

Both of Kane’s goals on Saturday were scored in the first half. The penalty was awarded in the 22nd minute after Lennart Karl was fouled. The second goal followed four minutes later, a precise shot that hit the post from outside the penalty area, marking his 26th league goal of the season.

The 32-year-old forward has now scored 41 goals in 35 matches for Bayern across all competitions this season, becoming the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to surpass the 40-goal threshold.

Since his transfer from Tottenham in 2023, Kane has accumulated 126 goals for Bayern, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer with 280 goals.

Kane also holds a record of 78 goals in 112 appearances for England.

Leon Goretzka, making a rare start in his final season at Bayern, added the team’s third goal in the 70th minute.

“We scored at the perfect situation and killed the game off,” Kane remarked.

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was substituted at halftime, reportedly as a precaution due to a minor calf issue. Jonas Urbig took over for the second half.

Bayern’s victory makes it highly improbable for Borussia Dortmund to catch up when the two teams face each other in two weeks, given Bayern’s significantly better goal difference.

Dortmund, who secured a 4-0 win against Mainz for their sixth consecutive league victory on Friday, will next play against RB Leipzig, while Bayern will host Eintracht Frankfurt in the 23rd round, one week prior to “der Klassiker” in Dortmund.
