MUNICH — Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season, casting doubt on his participation in the World Cup for Germany.

Gnabry has sustained a tear in the adductor muscle of his right thigh and will be unavailable “for a longer period,” as announced by Bayern on Saturday.

The club did not provide additional information, leaving the severity of the injury and the timeline for the 30-year-old forward’s return unclear. However, it appears he will miss Bayern’s remaining matches of the season as the team pursues a treble of trophies.

Bayern is poised to secure the Bundesliga title on Sunday unless it suffers a defeat at home to Stuttgart, in which case it will have four additional rounds to clinch the trophy.

Following that, Bayern will face Bayer Leverkusen away in the German Cup semifinals on Wednesday, before shifting focus to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semifinals.

Gnabry has scored eight goals and provided seven assists as Bayern set a new Bundesliga record for goals scored last weekend.

He participated in every World Cup qualifier for Germany and two friendlies in March, and was likely to be part of coach Julian Nagelsmann’s plans for the tournament in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
