Girona manager Michel Sanchez feels prepared to advance in his career and lead Manchester City if the chance presents itself.

The Spanish coach has been in charge of Girona, a LaLiga team affiliated with the City Group, since 2021.

Michel, 50, stated on the ‘La Otra Grada’ podcast: “I do see myself as ready [to coach City], I see myself ready to coach any team.”

He then added with a laugh: “I don’t know if they [City] view it that way.”

“Clearly, it’s not the same [to coach Girona or City]. I don’t possess a magic wand to address any kind of ego, but I do have the capability to adapt and I want to experience it.”

Guardiola, 55, will mark his 10th year of coaching at City this summer. He is contracted with the Citizens until June 2027.

Nonetheless, there are uncertainties regarding his continuation at the Etihad Stadium beyond this season, as the former Barcelona coach has dodged inquiries about his future following his team’s exit from the Champions League this week after a 5-1 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid.

Michel, on the other hand, indicates he is preparing in case a potential transition to the Premier League occurs.

“I have an English teacher and I continue to work on it,” he mentioned.

Michel, who began his coaching career at Rayo Vallecano, the club where he spent most of his playing days, has made a significant impact at Girona.

After guiding the Catalan team to promotion to LaLiga in his inaugural season, he was awarded LaLiga manager of the season in 2023-24 after Girona finished third in the standings, qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.

Girona, who defeated league leaders Barcelona 2-1 last month and drew with Real Madrid 1-1 in November, currently sit 12th in LaLiga.
