DRESDEN, Germany — Authorities in the German city of Dresden have initiated over a dozen inquiries into offenses, including the infliction of “dangerous bodily harm,” following significant disturbances involving fans at a soccer match.

A large group of Dynamo Dresden supporters surged onto the field towards Hertha Berlin fans during Saturday’s second-division match before being repelled by police. Subsequently, Dresden fans set fire to a Hertha fan flag.

The match resumed after a nearly 20-minute delay, with Hertha securing a 1-0 victory.

In a statement released late Saturday, police indicated they were looking into offenses such as dangerous bodily harm, public disorder, and property damage. There was no immediate confirmation of any injuries or arrests.

Dynamo Dresden’s finance director, Stephan Zimmermann, expressed regret to “all uninvolved individuals who were affected by these unnecessary actions” and noted that the club had engaged with law enforcement.

“Our home matches are recognized for their distinctive atmosphere. Incidents like those witnessed this evening are unacceptable and inflict significant harm not only on our club but on soccer in Germany as a whole,” Zimmermann stated.

“We, along with many other clubs, have been advocating for fan interests and a secure stadium environment in recent months, and occurrences like this represent a serious setback.”
